Dove Real Beauty Sketches

I thought I'd make a bit of a change-up on today's post and write about something equally as important. Body Image.
I think with the increasing amount of media we are subjected to, and choosing to view in our day to day lives has resulted in our body image, and the way we view ourselves becoming more and more negative. Too much focus is put on your appearance defining who you are as a person. Not enough is focused on who you are as a person inside, defining who you are as a person. Make sense?
Below is a video from Dove in which an artist had to draw women, without seeing them. Only from the way they described themselves. The artist then re-drew the women from how a complete stranger had described them. Its heartbreaking how much we ourselves, focus on what we perceive to be the negative aspects of our bodies/faces instead of the positives. Nobody has a perfect body and I think that is something we have to remember. We all have bits we dislike, but its important not to forget the bits you like.
Just because you think those jeans make your legs look like tree trunks doesn't detract from the fact that  your butt looks great!
I'm a firm believer in that people who confident in their own skin are the most beautiful and I think that the work that Dove does on promoting Body Confidence in schools and by other methods is really beneficial and something that Society has been calling for, for a very long time.
Women are their own worst beauty critics. Only 4% of women around the world consider themselves beautiful. At Dove, we are committed to creating a world where beauty is a source of confidence, not anxiety. So, we decided to conduct a compelling social experiment that explores how women view their own beauty in contrast to what others see. You are more beautiful than you think.
Have any of you seen this video before?
What did you think?

This is a great post.

I WISH they would promote body confidence in schools. I was a teacher and had Year 7 tutees and couldn't believe it when I started to hear them talking about their bodies in a negative way. It's really, really sad and I feel like it gets worse every day :( I hope that we get more ads and campaigns like this one.

I agree so much Tash. Its such a HUGE part of peoples lives and eats away at people so much. Just five minutes of someone telling you that it's okay to look the way you do and be the person you are. It can make such a difference on your whole outlook!
